Cristiano Ronaldo should have won 6 Ballon d'Ors by now had France Football decided not to rob him of the award.
5 years ago, Ronaldo had one of the best seasons of his career, winning his third consecutive Champions League title with Real Madrid whilst being the top scorer in the tournament that year.
In 75 appearances for club and country in 2018, Ronaldo bagged 65 goals which included that famous hat-trick against Spain in the FIFA World Cup.
But what later happened? France Football crowned Luka Modric the Ballon d'Or winner ahead of Cristiano who had way better stats than his former teammate.
Anyone can argue that Modric had a better individual performance at the World Cup which played a crucial role in landing him the Golden Ball, but if we are to go by this logic, then why did Messi win the award in 2010 ahead of Sneijder and Iniesta?
Messi didn't score in the 2010 WC but ended up winning the Ballon d'Or over Sneijder who was the joint top scorer and Iniesta who scored the winning goal in the final.
So if Messi won it in 2010 because of his individual performances at club level, then Modric had no business winning it in 2018, therefore there's no Ballon d'Or heist (robbery) bigger than the one of 2018.
