UEFA Champions League

See how Atalanta pounds Valencia 4 - 1 as they beat the Spanish team in the first leg of their tie.

In what would prove to be a thrilling match with a surprising result, Atalanta has utterly and soundly defeated Valencia to most assuredly progress to the UEFA Champions League quarter finals.

In a game of high intensity and high tempo, Atalanta proved to be the better side as they flooged Valencia 4 - 1 to come out on top of their clash. Hans Hateboer, Josip Ilicic and Remo Freuler all got on the score sheet for Atalanta with Hateboer scoring twice, opening and closing the scoring. Denis Cheryshev however also got on the score sheet for Valencia to pull one back for the visitors, but it was nowhere near enough to set the stage for a late comeback.

This very likely eliminates Valencia out of the competition except they produce some home magic to turn the tables as Liverpool did against Barcelona last season. However we can say for now that qualification from this stage looks to be hard for them and they might have to go back to focusing on their league duties alone soon enough. Atalanta has however set a record with this being the first time they have won three consecutive European matches in their entire history.

Well that's that and we look forward to the second leg of the UCL match. What do you think about this match?
