After a 5-0 loss to their fiercest rivals in the league, Solskjaer's position at Old Trafford is in jeopardy. The Norwegian was intended to march on and contend for the greatest titles this season, and while it appeared to be doable after the first two months, the 48-year-old has had a rough month.
The club has dropped out of the Top 6 after a draw with Everton, a loss to Leicester, and a loss to Liverpool. As a result, plans are being made to replace the manager, with Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane, and Brendan Rodgers topping the shortlist.
Conte led Inter Milan to Serie A victory last season, breaking Juventus' decade-long stranglehold in Italian football. Later, at the start of this season, he left them.
After leading Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League titles, Zidane stepped down in 2018. He returned to the club in 2019 and led them to a La Liga title before departing the Spanish city for the second time this summer. As a result, both Conte and Zidane are currently unemployed.
Rodgers, on the other hand, is currently managing an intriguing project at the King Power Stadium with Leicester City, who have finished in the top six in each of the last two seasons and won the FA Cup last season. The former Liverpool manager is thought to have been a long-term objective for the Red Devils.
As a result of the mounting pressure on Solskjaer at Old Trafford, plans are already being made for the future, and major decisions will need to be taken in the coming weeks.
Regardless, whether either manager is interested in joining the 13-time Premier League champions, especially this late in the season, remains to be seen.
