Premier League

Liverpool to hand Chelsea top four spot

With the title race all done and dusted and with most of the clubs left with two fixtures to go, the battle for the champions league spot has taken some momentum as three major clubs; Chelsea, Leicester and Manchester United are all seeking to make it to the top flight European competition.

The Blues are two points away from gaining top four spot in the English Premier league. This is possible if they are able to secure a victory or draw in the remaining fixtures. However, having gifted Liverpool a quick access to the Premiership title by defeating Manchester City; this could be the time Liverpool reciprocates Chelsea’s good feat by handing them the much needed points.

However, the rivalry between the two London clubs and an away loss to Arsenal might see the Klopp’s side battling for bragging rights when playing against Frank Lampard’s team. Chelsea FC would be wary of the threat posed by the likes of Manchester United who are also favourites to make it to the top four. The battle now will be to sit at the third position without a need of a playoff when the Champions league kicks off next season.

Chelsea would have a good ride in making it to Europe if Leicester and Manchester United fail to make good use of their opportunity before their clash in the final fixtures and if the blues are able to get a point from Wolves in their final fixture as well. Mathematically, the blues have a 90% chance of securing a Champions league spot. Do you think this is actually possible? Share your thoughts and comment.
