Chelsea will be without thiago Silva for the first leg of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday,February 23,2021 due to a thigh muscle injury.

There was optimism that the veteran Brazilian would be back for the crucial game in Bucharest after he was pictured in a training session last week following a thigh muscle injury.

But speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday,February 22,Manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Silva will again be missing from his squad.

Thiago Silva has not played since suffering a thigh muscle problem during a 1:0 win over rivals club,Tottenham on Thursday,February 4,2021.The former PSG star has missed four games with the injury,including Saturday's 1:1 draw with Southampton at St Mary's.

The good news is that Havertz and Pulisic are both fit to travel to Romania for Tuesday night's first leg.Havertz has not played since the win over Burnley on January 31 after suffering a knock in training but he returned to training with Silva.The German was not fit enough to be involved against Southampton but he is now in contention along with Pulisic,who just recovered from a minor calf issue.

Tuchel said,"I am so happy that both Havertz and Pulisic are ready against the Laliga rivals club,Atletico Madrid.They trained with us and there were no complaints.They will replace Thiago Silva who is still managing injury and travel with us.

Thiago Silva is strong defender from Brazil.He played previously for popular Ligue 1 club,Paris Saint-German.It was as a result of his good,tactical and accurate defensive performances that attracted the Blues side to buy him.But the Brazilian has been fluctuating between active and poor form since arrival,worst of all right now injuries has started setting in.
