The 2021 January transfer window saw Arsenal terminating the contract of four senior players who are surplus to requirements and also loaning out some fringe players in the squad. According to reports, the out goings of players resulted to about £800,000 freed up in terms of wages.
Arteta in one of his interview talked about the need to trim down the size of his team and it seems he has achieved that this January. In addition to the exit of some players, Arsenal were able to bring in two player to fill in the void in their team. Martin Odegaard and Matty Bryan were added to the team to help support Smith Rowe and Bernd Leno.
Before the clear out in the team, reports have it that Arsenal has about 31 senior players but after the January transfer window closed, they are left with just 25 man squad. So, Let's take a look at the 25 man squad Mikel Arteta currently have for the second halg of the 2020/2021 season:
GK: Leno/Ryan||Runar/Iliev
RB: Chambers||Bellerin
LB: Tierney||Soares Right
CB: Holding||Luiz
Left CB: Mari/Gabriel
CDM: Partey/Ceballos
CM: Xhaka||Elneny
RW: Saka/Martinelli
LW: Pepe||Auba
CAM: Emile/Odegaard||Willian
CF: Laca/Nketiah
As they say, the slimmer the squad, the more manageable it is but one area Arsenal failed to address is the left back. The inability to bring in a left back might pose a problem in the long run for the gunners. Though Cedric Soares can fill in that position but he won't be that effective in terms of crosses.
