When the 2020/2021 season started, many pundits tipped the reigning Premier League champion, Liverpool to retain their title they won last year after thirty years with their master class display last season.
There were high hope for every Liverpool fans coming into this season. They all wanted to see their team replicating their heroic display of last season and win more trophies for the club.
After a fine start to the 2020/2021 season, Liverpool form began to retrogress with Virgil Van Djirk and other first team players missing out of the campaign due to injury which has left the Merseyside club to depend on their reserve team for cover up.
Things began to get worse for Liverpool after losing at home for the first time in four years against struggling Burnley and were also dumped out of the EFL cup and FA cup. Liverpool first victory at home in 2021 came in the Champions League against RB Leipzig.
Presently, Liverpool will finish 2020/2021 season without a silverware to their name. They are currently sitting on 6th position on the EPL table, three points behind 4th placed West Ham and currently have a game in hand.
A top four finish seems to be the only way Liverpool can play European football next season after being dumped out of the competition by Real Madrid in the quarter finals.
This season, Liverpool have been very poor both in defence and in attack with the team always relying on the duo of Mo Salah and Diego Jota for goals. Sadio Mane on the other hand has dipped in form and of Liverpool wants to compete for titles next season, they need the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firminho and Diego Jota to be in the best form of their lives.
