REPORTS: Manchester United face competition to sign AC Milan midfield star next year

Manchester United football club must be looking forward to winning their first major trophy under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after an eventful summer transfer window.

The Old Trafford side added some players to their squad during the summer to boost their chances of competing with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea for more trophies.

However, that has not quite worked out well for Manchester United so far as they are currently sitted in 6th position on the Premier League table ahead of their next match against Watford on Saturday.

And due to their poor start to the season, Manchester United want to improve their midfield options and have been linked with a move for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast International, who joined AC Milan from Atalanta in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad since he made the move.

The young attacking midfielder enjoyed an impressive 2020/2021 season where he scored 14 goals and created six assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan.

Franck Kessie has also enjoyed a flying start to the 2021/2022 season so far and has scored two goals in 12 appearances so far.

But then, Franck Kessie has less than a year left on his current contract with AC Milan and having not signed an extension, he could be pondering on a move away from the club.

However, his excellent performances in midfield is said to have caught the attention of Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.

But according to reports from The Sun, Manchester United now face competition from London rivals Arsenal to sign the young midfielder.

The reports further claimed that Arsenal want to further strengthen their options in midfield and are set to compete with Manchester United for Franck Kessie.

That said, it remains to be seen if Franck Kessie will choose to continue his developments at AC Milan by signing a new contract or he will want to try out a new challenge next year by moving to England.
