Since the world pandemic broke out in 2020, the financial stability of football is not regained with clubs losing billions of money due to the absence of fans in the football stadium. With that financial issues, top European clubs are proposing a new league named Super league or European super league, it will be played within European top clubs. For now 12 clubs have joined the motion of forming the Super league.
The top 6 Premier league clubs have already declared their support to form the Super league, they include Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham. Others from Laliga Santander are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, others are Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan bringing the number of clubs to 12.
It was going round that there might be ban by the UEFA champions league to those clubs that open up their intentions to join the new proposed Super league. However, Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid could be banned from the champions league and this season the trophy would be handed to Paris Saint German club.
The Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is the president of Super league while the vice president is Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.
The Super league would be played like this come August 2021, clubs participating in 2 groups of 10 playing home and away games. Top 3 will advance to the quarter finals, 4th and 5th in a two-legged play off for the remaining quarter final positions. A two-legged knock out format is used to reach the final.
The European super league has caused stir in football fans as some expressed what they felt about it. Some take it as a new excitement in the world of football while others take it as a break away from the normal football. Fans reaction.
