Athletico Madrid was held by Celta Vigo on Monday night to a 2-2 draw at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano. Luis Suarez's brace was not enough to give Diego Simeone's men victory to maintain the 10points lead on the Laliga table.
Real Madrid and Barcelona all won during the weekend, with narrowly escaped with a 3-2 away victory against Real Betis. Madrid secured a 2-1 away victory on Saturday evening, thanks to the brace from defender Rafael Varane.
After these three results, we can see both Real Madrid and Barcelona closing the gap from the previous 10 points to 8 points. Although Athletico has one match in hand. A few dropping points might see Athletico missing the top spot to either Barcelona or Real.
Athletico however, will be looking forward to bouncing back to winning ways to avoid losing the title. The last time they won the title was in 2014. Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao were Simeone's weapons of mass destruction, beating in-form Barcelona and Real to the title glory.
However, Luis Suarez has proved his worth again as a world-class striker, Scoring the two goals Athletico had vs Celta. The Uruguayan int'l is probably showing his previous club Barcelona what they are missing this season.
