The 2 Reasons Why Romelu Lukaku Is Unable To Score Against Big Teams This Season

Romelu Lukaku started his second Chelsea career in fine form, scoring four goals in his first five games. Romelu Lukaku's impressive start to the season won the heart of every Chelsea fan as they believed the club has finally signed a prolific striker.

Going down the memory lane, Chelsea is unfortunate when it comes to signing prolific strikers as most of the signings ended up becoming a flop at the club. The likes of Fernando Torres, Alvaro Morata and Loic Remy didn't live up to expectations.

Romelu Lukaku was destined to be the man to replace Didier Drogba but his performance in recent matches has not been encouraging and is getting the fans worried.

What has gone wrong with Romelu Lukaku in the last five Matches?

To think that Romelu Lukaku took the Premier League by storm, scoring against Arsenal and Aston Villa and was looking promising to clinch the Golden boot award before experiencing a dip in his form.

Romelu Lukaku has gone five consecutive games without scoring a goal for Chelsea and has not shown any sign of improvement. There are people who are of opinion that the Romelu Lukaku is not a world-class striker as he tends to score against smaller teams while ghosting against bigger teams.

Statistically, Romelu Lukaku has played four big teams since he joined Chelsea and only manage to score one goal against the struggling Arsenal side. Romelu Lukaku was very poor against Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham, Juventus and Brentford as he struggled to score goals against teams that has a strong defence.

Romelu Lukaku inability to score against a tougher team is a result of the formation and good playmakers in the team.

1. Unfavourable Formation:

The 3-4-3 formation has been a success for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea but Romelu Lukaku cannot succeed in the formation as the system hinders his impact. The 3-4-3 formation doesn't give the Belgian striker the freedom to exploit the opposition defence as he often wanders alone with support from the wingers.

Thomas Tuchel should ditch his 3-4-3 and choose a more suitable and attacking 4-3-3 formation if he wants to get the best from Romelu Lukaku.

2. Poor creativity and average playmakers:

Chelsea is definitely the only big six team without a good playmaker and this has affected Romelu Lukaku a lot. Manchester City and Manchester United have the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes who are gifted in breaking opposition defence with a simple pass and playmaking techniques.

Chelsea at the moment doesn't have a good playmaker as the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz are not good enough and are not creating enough chances for Romelu Lukaku.

Conclusion:

Romelu Lukaku remains one of the best strikers in the world and if given enough chances will surely score irrespective of the opposition he comes against.
