It's not a nice look for a football team to be known for being overly reliant on a single player. Managers would prefer not to have their team rely on a single person to provide on a consistent basis. However, During the 2021-22 season, some top players have performed admirably and assisted their teams in moving forward. Based on this, Let's take a look at five clubs who are currently relying on one particular player.
Salah pushed Liverpool forward last campaign when they were hampered by injury and the poor form of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. In 51 outings for the Merseysiders in all competitions in 2020-21, he netted 31 goals and added six assists. He's been scoring like crazy this season, with 15 goals and six assists in just 13 games for Liverpool in all competitions thus far.
When it comes to scoring goals, Lewandowski has been on another level entirely. Right now, he is perhaps the best striker in the world. He matched Gerd Muller's record for most goals scored in a Bundesliga season by scoring 41 in 29 league games in the 2020-21 season. In just 16 games across all competitions this season, he has scored 22 goals.
3. Real Madrid - Karim Benzema
This season, Benzema has been in outstanding form. In 13 games in all competitions in the 2021-22 season, he has 11 goals and eight assists. In 46 outings, he was their best player in the 2020-21 season, scoring 30 goals and adding nine assists.
2. Borussia Dortmund - Erling Haaland
In 41 games in all competitions in the 2020-21 campaign, Haaland netted 41 goals and added 12 assists. He's been equally impressive this season, scoring 13 goals and assisting four times in just ten games. Erling Haaland is a world-class striker, despite the fact that he is only 21 years old.
1. Manchester United - Cristiano Ronaldo
Only because of Cristiano Ronaldo is Manchester United's Champions League campaign still on course. In a must-win game for Solskjaer's side, he first scored a last-minute winner against Villarreal. After a 3-2 comeback triumph over Atalanta a fortnight ago, the Portuguese international scored the game-winning goal. Solskjaer could be out of a job right now if he didn't have Cristiano Ronaldo on his team.
