Reasons Why Rudiger's Contract Situation Shouldn't Be Of Much Concern To The Blues Supporters.

Antonio Rüdiger is in the final year of his contract with the reigning European Champions Chelsea. The Blues are trying their best to tie the central defender to a new contract extension according to multiple sources. However, the German has refused to pen down an extension thereby putting the fans and management in a very tight position.

Since Rüdiger is an astounding defender, exploring every option that will aid both parties in agreeing on terms isn't bad at all but then, one must understand there are chances that the deal could also break down.

In such a scenario, the Blues supporters and Rüdiger fans should look at the brighter side rather than panic due to the few reasons which shall be discussed in this article. They include;

a.) The Emergence of Trevoh Chalobah

Some might doubt the qualities of Trevoh Chalobah but believe me when I say he is a reincarnation of Ricardo Carvalho of old. Richardo Carvalho of Portugal was an astute and serious-minded defender giving his 100% irrespective of the stage of the competition.

These attributes have been replicated by the English defender who first burst onto the scene in the Mind series game against Arsenal where he put up a magnificent performance for such a young age. Thomas Tuchel was a bit skeptical about his qualities but after his performance against Villarreal in UEFA Super Cup, the manager changed his perception of the young talent.Rüdiger might be more experienced than the youngster but the truth is that about eight months ago, no single Chelsea supporter would have wanted Rüdiger to continue at the club due to his horrendous displays under Frank Lampard. But since Tuchel took over the reins, he has been superb.

The same cannot be said of Chalobah who has been impressive since day one and looking at their age difference, he looks like a better deal over Rüdiger who will soon clock 30.

Tuchel should consider investing in the young talent by granting him more playing time to enable him to gather more experience. Youngsters like Trevoh Chalobah are the face of new birth and so, Chelsea must take advantage of his existence.

b. The Last time a player wanted OUT and how it ENDED.

Chelsea is one of the most decorated football clubs in the world owing to their achievements over the years both in England and Europe. They have witnessed football greats such as Frank Lampard, John Terry, Drogba, Torres, David Luiz, etc, don the famous blue and yellow jersey of the club.

However, in the midst of that, some of these players chose not to continue at the club for reasons such as the desire for more wealth over passion, arrogance, lack of playing time, etc. Let's consider a typical case of Eden Hazard who was the only player in the club's history to have won the highest number of players of the season award.

Hazard broke the heart of many Chelsea supporters when he said he wasn't going to continue at the club due to interest from Real Madrid. The club supporters thought they couldn't stand a chance but yet they moved on perfectly in his absence and today are EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS with Hazard struggling at Real Madrid to date. Another case was Willian whom the club offered one year contract but he refused and instead wanted out and later on ended as a flop in the new club.

All these points to one fact that players who always wanted out from the club due to contract negotiations directly or indirectly usually don't perform better in the subsequent years and if by tomorrow Rüdiger decides not to stay, the club should consider letting him go for the betterment of both parties cause a SINGLE player cannot be BIGGER than the club.

With the above analysis, Chelsea fans should be more focused on how the club could move forward in his absence rather than wallow in the thoughts of losing him.
