The Blues have a reputation for spending a lot of money, but they've also been known to sell a lot of players. The majority of these players were released while still in their peak, while some left the club while still in their prime. As a result, there are a few transfers that Chelsea will undoubtedly regret given the success of the players at other teams.

We look at three such players who Chelsea should not have sold in this article:

Diego Costa

Diego Costa's exit from Chelsea was perplexing, given that he was an important member of the Chelsea squad throughout his time there.

Costa received a text message from Conte telling him that his skills were no longer needed at the club due to a dispute with the manager. The Spaniard returned to Atletico Madrid the next season as a result.

Costa is probably Chelsea's finest striker since Didier Drogba, with big-money additions like Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata failing to live up to expectations. The Blues re-signed Romelu Lukaku this summer at a club-record fee of £97.5 million. Whether the Belgian will be successful at Stamford Bridge remains to be seen.

Chelsea supporters, on the other hand, would have been irritated by Costa's departure.

Mohamed Salah

When Chelsea paid £14.5 million for Mohamed Salah in January 2014, he was a relatively unknown figure. Salah's career never took off at Chelsea, despite his speed on the wings. Salah has had few notable moments aside from scoring in Arsenal's 6-0 triumph and appearing in the notorious "Gerard slip" match versus Liverpool at Anfield.

Salah was finally sold to Roma in 2016 for roughly £14 million after two successful loan stints with Fiorentina and Roma. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool paid £30 million for his services after he scored 20 goals in little over 40 games in the 2016-17 season.

With 132 goals and 50 assists in 212 appearances, one Premier League title, one Champions League title and two Premier League Golden Boots, Salah has been nothing short of sensational.

It speaks volumes about the success that Salah and Liverpool have enjoyed. He is considered one of the very best in football right now and is constantly spoken about in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea have not finished above Liverpool in the league since Salah's arrival at Anfield. This is a transfer mistake that will certainly hurt the Blues fans in the years to come.

Kevin De Bruyne

The loss of Kevin De Bruyne, who is probably one of the finest midfielders in the world right now, is likely to be Chelsea's biggest regret.

De Bruyne arrived in London from Genk in 2012 for a reported £7 million, and his two-year stint coincided with the club's finest period for offensive midfielders ever. During that time, the club possessed players like Willian, Oscar, Eden Hazard, and even Juan Mata, indicating that De Bruyne would be at the bottom of the priority list.

As a result, De Bruyne was permitted to join Werder Bremen on loan, where his performances wowed everyone. Many supporters were hoping for a similar performance at Stamford Bridge.

De Bruyne, for whatever reason, failed under Jose Mourinho and was moved back to Germany after six months, this time to Wolfsburg on a permanent basis.

De Bruyne earned Germany's Footballer of the Year title in 2014-15 after demonstrating his real class throughout his 18 months there. In the summer of 2015, Manchester City paid £55 million to sign him.

De Bruyne has gone on to become one of the most renowned and accomplished footballers in the world. Many consider him the finest offensive midfielder in the world right now due to his creativity, vision, and goal-scoring ability. Three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and five League Cups have been added to his trophy collection at City.

In recent years, Chelsea has missed a midfielder of De Bruyne's inventiveness and creativity. If he had remained at the club, one can only think what the Blues might have accomplished.
