Manchester United's three best players against Villarreal

Manchester United came back from a goal down to defeat Villarreal 2-1, thanks to a last-gasp Cristiano Ronaldo goal.

When Paco Alcacer gave the visitors the lead early in the second half, he hushed Old Trafford. On the hour mark, Alex Telles equalized with a spectacular volley following a brilliant Bruno Fernandes free kick.

Geronimo Rulli couldn't save a Ronaldo strike with seconds left, sending Old Trafford into raptures. The three best United players from the Champions League match are listed below...

David De Gea

With United's back four missing three of their first-choice players, David de Gea would have expected to be busier, but the Spaniard kept his club in the game at times.

Arnaut Danjuma caused all sorts of issues for Diogo Dalot, but happily for the Portuguese right-back, United's number one was always there to save him.

De Gea parried a Moi Gomez shot that flew into the path of Boulaye Dia, who appeared to have a tap-in, but De Gea somehow managed to get a hand on Dia's headed effort as the game entered the last moments.

The ball was then scrambled to safety by Alex Telles and Raphael Varane. De Gea is back to his best form, and tonight was a throwback to the days when he was a one-man show.

Alex Telles

It was always going to be impossible to replace Luke Shaw, but with United in desperate need of a hero, Telles' wand of a left foot elevated the Theatre of Dreams.

It was a brilliant display of individual brilliance at a time when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side's Champions League ambitions appeared to be dwindling.

Throughout the game, the Brazilian was eager to come forward and send in crosses for Ronaldo. What an incredible moment for the former Porto striker to score his first Manchester United goal.

Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes, who was wearing the captain's armband in the absence of Harry Maguire, tried to drive and lead his team forward at every opportunity after missing a penalty against Aston Villa.

Fernandes' will to win at all costs is contagious, and on a night when things could have gone horribly wrong, United's number 18 inspired his colleagues. Telles was able to volley United back into the game thanks to Bruno Fernandes cross.

The Portugal international was hassling, pressuring, and harrying the Villarreal players, which brought back the Man United Fans back to life
