The official nomination list of the 2021 FIFA ballon d'or has been released. From the list released, it's difficult to predict who this year's winner will be. These players nominated all had individual brilliance last season and they deserved to be seen on the list.
Chelsea had the most players on the nomination list, just as one would expect. They won the Champions League and the Super Cup and these players had individual brilliance last season.
Mason Mount scored in the quarter final and against Real Madrid in the semi final, the Englishman also provided an assist for Kai Havertz as he scored in the final. N'golo Kante was an important player in Chelsea's Champions League journey, he won back to back player of the match and also won the UEFA midfielder of the season award.
Romelu Lukaku won the Italian Serie A title with Inter Milan last season ending Juventus' years of dominance. The Belgian forward was also one of Europe's top scorers last season. Cesar Azpilicueta captained Chelsea to their second Champions League title, he has now won every title with Chelsea except the FIFA Club World Cup. Jorginho won the Champions League, Super Cup and the EUROS, the Italian midfielder is seen in the top three favourites to win the award.
Chelsea were not the only team to have five players nominated for the prestigious award. Manchester City also had Kevin de bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Ruben Dias nominated for the award.
