However, while he has been hoarding the individual award, a slew of other world-class players have been left out.
Here is the list of players that haven't won the award.
1. PATRICK VIEIRA:
Despite earning the Premier League Player of the Season award in 2000/01, the French midfield general and Arsenal icon never received a POTM award. Vieira became club captain in 2002 and captained the ‘Invincibles' to the 2003/04 title, scoring the game-winning goal against Leicester on the final day.
2. VINCENT KOMPANY:
The central defender was a crucial part of Roberto Mancini's team as they won the Premier League for the first time in 2011/12. That season, the Belgian made 31 league appearances and scored three goals.
The most important of these was City's lone goal in the Manchester derby in April, which put them on the verge of a historic victory. After that, Kompany was troubled by injuries, and despite some outstanding performances, he was never able to return to his former dominant form.
3. DAVID DE GEA:
Manchester United's player of the season for three years in a row, a club record. The winner of the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, and Europa League. Despite this, he appears to have never been the league's best player in a given month.
De Gea has made over 300 appearances for United since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2011. He's won five of the six Match of the Day 'Save of the Season' competitions during that period, and in December 2017, he equalled a Premier League record with 14 saves in a single match against Arsenal.
4. PETER SCHMEICHEL:
During his time at Manchester United, Schmeichel won five Premier League titles and was a key member of the team that won the treble in 1998/99. In 1995/96, the Great Dane was named United's player-of-the-season after Alex Ferguson's team beat Kevin Keegan's Newcastle to the title.
But, strangely enough, the goalie should have won POTM during his one season with Aston Villa-precisely, October 2001. Villa won three of their four games during that month, maintaining two clean sheets. However, the 3-2 loss to Everton stands out because Schmeichel became the first goalie to score in a Premier League match. Rio Ferdinand, then a Leeds defender, snatched the award from him.
5. DIDIER DROGBA:
Chelsea's four-time Premier League champion has never earned a player of the month award. In Jose Mourinho's debut season at Stamford Bridge, Drogba helped Chelsea win back-to-back league titles, then went on to have two outstanding individual seasons after the Portuguese left.
With 20 goals in the 2006/07 Premier League season, the Ivorian was named to the PFA Team of the Year, the FIFPro World XI, the UEFA Team of the Year, and finished fourth in the Ballon d'Or voting. He was the Premier League's top scorer for the second consecutive season in 2009/10, with 29 goals in 32 appearances.
