CAF Competitions: How Nigerian Representatives Can Excel

Actions will return in CAF organised competitions this weekend as teams who excelled beyond the preliminary stages begin their quest for continental glory.

Following the elimination of current Nigeria professional football league champions, Akwa United, in the preliminary stage, Nigeria is left with three teams in the continent with Rivers United, Enyimba and Bayelsea United campaigning in the CAF champions league and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.

Two times African Champions league winner, Enyimba Int'l, who are campaigning in the CAF Confederation Cup will come toe to toe with Senegalese outfit, Diambars FC, in Dakar whilst Bayelsea United will trade tackles with Tunsian giant's, Sfaxien in Nigeria.

Rivers United, the only Nigerian team in the elite CAF Competition will welcome Sudanese side, Al-Hilal Omuduman at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Rivers State, Nigeria.

In recent times, no Nigerian team has been able to reach the finals of the two CAF organised club competitions in because of the inability to meet up with the high intensity brand of football played in the continent by North African teams and South African teams.

Inorder for Nigerian representatives to rewrite the narratives and make strong statements on the continent, the teams must endeavor to win their home games out rightly with high score lines so as to advance regardless the antics their opponent might implore at away.

Nigeria professional football league current Champions, Akwa United, weren't able to advance in the preliminary stage owing to the normal mistake made by Nigerian teams when they face teams from other countries.

Akwa United piped it's Algerian opponents on a (1-0) scoreline in Nigeria and then ousted after loosing on a (2-0) scoreline away to the Algerian team in Algiers.

The two Nigerian teams playing at home this weekend can only excel beyond the current stage if they can beat it's opponents with a high goal margin before the reverse fixture in a fortnight.

The only Nigerian team playing at away this weekend, Enyimba Int'l, can only brighten it's chances of qualification if only they can play and defend stoutly so as to get a point(s) and come home and finish the business in a fortnight.

Goodluck to them all!
