Since the 2021/22 English premier league campaign began, Football enthusiasts and Pundits alike have been making their prediction about what shape the EPL table could take at the end of this season, particularly about the Winner and the teams that will make top four. It's a given that there will be title Contenders and Pretenders in every campaign.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are being seen as the true contenders for the 2021/22 English premier league title. The reason why many Pundits are hitching their wagon on these teams to win the league title is because of their squad depth and the quality of players in these teams which is rated World class.
Former Manchester United Star Paul Scholes who's now a Sky Sports pundits is among those that have made their prediction about the 2020/21 League. While a lot of other Pundits are heaping praise on Chelsea's current form and their run of good results, Paul Scholes isn't enthusiastic about Chelsea's performance as he believed that the Blues won't go anyway near the league title.
One won't be wrong to think Paul Scholes' verdict on Chelsea is based on pure sentiments and not critical thinking. I mean how can one say that the club that's sitting on top of the league table won't go anywhere near winning the title.
It shouldn't also be a surprise that Paul Scholes is not about to support Chelsea winning the 2020/21 League title when his club Manchester United haven't won that same title in 8 years. He did played his entire club football career at Manchester United.
Speaking to a Chelsea Fan on a TV show alongside Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, Paul Scholes said: "I don't think you are great Defensively. Antonio Rudiger has been really good but other than that, Thiago Silva is 36, he’s not going to play every game."
"Andreas Christensen is a young player. In the middle of your pitch, Chelsea are alright. But I’m not sure Chelsea will score enough goals and defensively be good enough."
Chelsea's match against Brentford came after Paul Scholes spoke about the weakness in the defense of Thomas Tuchel's Squad. The Blues defeated Brentford at Brentford community Stadium but, the premier league new boys didn't make it easy. During the last 20 minutes of the game, Edouard Mendy made 6 saves including a close range shot that he took with his face to deny Brentford.
That same day, Manchester United were thrashed 4-2 by Leicester City. For Chelsea Fans, this was the vindication that they needed after Paul Scholes' claim.
However, Paul Scholes didn't go back on his word about Chelsea's weak Defense. In the aftermath of Chelsea's clash with Brentford, Paul Scholes put a question out to Chelsea Fans on his Instagram story.
He wrote: "Just a question. If your Goalkeeper is Man of the Match, does that mean your team defended well?"
This is definitely a question that begs a deep thought before responding. Overall, Chelsea Defense has been good this season with Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva in the starting lineup. Malang Sarr, Andreas Christensen and Trevor Chalobah did held their feet against Brentford but it was all Edouard Mendy that saved Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel will be hoping that his experienced Defenders are fit and available for rest of season because playing Young Defenders against a pressing team like Manchester City and Liverpool will do little help for the club.
