Transfer News: Man Utd eye De Jong alternative; Pulisic tipped to leave Chelsea

Man Utd eye De Jong alternative

Erik ten Hag wanted to make Frenkie de Jong his first signing as Manchester United manager when the Dutchman was appointed at Old Trafford last year.

United retain an interest in De Jong with the club having designs on strengthening the midfield department this summer. Ten Hag’s side lack quality backup options to Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have been pitched as alternative options to De Jong but the club could save millions on a player with a remarkably similar profile to the latter by striking a deal for USA international Taylor Booth.

According to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag is a big admirer of the 21-year-old, who has been making waves for Utrecht in the Eredivisie. Ten Hag played for and coached the club and is believed to still have strong ties there, allowing him to receive regular updates on Booth’s progress.

Pulisic tipped to leave Chelsea

United States international Christian Pulisic is being tipped to leave Chelsea this summer as he “needs to feel like an important player” again.

“I think [Pulisic will leave], yes. It's time for him to go and play some regular football, he needs to be consistent and feel like an important player in the club and this is not happening at Chelsea," Fabrizio Romano told CBS Sports.

Sofyan Amrabat is Barca's preferred options to replace Busquets

Sofyan Amrabat is the favourite option to replace Sergio Busquets as Barcelona plan for life without their long-serving club captain, writes Spanish outlet Sport.

Busquets, 34, confirmed on Wednesday that he will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season. He has not yet finalised his next move amid interest from Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Barca, meanwhile, have started to explore the market for potential replacements, with Fiorentina's Amrabat and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves two names doing the rounds.

Sport reports that Amrabat, who shone at the World Cup with Morocco, is the Catalan clubs first choice for the pivot role, but much will rely on their transfer budget this summer. Neves, represented by agent Jorge Mendes, has also been offered to the club, but the club's hierarchy aren't convinced he has the right profile for the No. 6 role.

David de Gea agrees new Manchester United contract

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has finally agreed upon the terms of a new deal and is set to put pen to paper imminently, but the Red Devils have given him no assurances about holding the No.1 shirt should he choose to stay put at Old Trafford. De Gea, who is currently the club’s highest earner and would net £350,000-a-week if the club qualify for the Champions League, has agreed to take a massive salary reduction. The 32-year old will now take home a significantly lower basic salary with the deal heavily incentivised instead, with bonuses for matches played and performance-related clauses.
