Premier League

Payback TIME: A date with Arsenal at WEMBLEY.

Having lost to Manchester United on three different occasions this season, Chelsea were determined not to lose again on Sunday.

The Blues defeated Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley to set up a match with Arsenal on August 1.

On the night, the Blues were the Better side from the outset, at the foueth time asking, they have a victory to savour over the Red Devil.

Chelsea's excellent performance fully merited this victory and United's abject misery after the horrendous errors from United's goalkeeper David De Gea on either side of the half gifted Chelsea two goals lead.

A dreadful performance was completed when Manchester United captain Harry Maguire diverted Marcos Alonso's cross into his own net at the near post with 16mins left.

The Red Devil pulled a goal back through Bruno Fernandes who scored from the spot after Chelsea's player Callum Hudson-Odoi fouled Anthony Martial in the box.

Chelsea's boss Frank Lampard applauded his team saying, " it is a great achievement for us to get there. To win a semi is a great thing but to win a final is THE thing. It is certainly up there because of the size of the game and the quality of the opponent but we have had some good performances this season, we are progressing, we are getting better. There have been recent bumps but today was a performance of huge character and personality, work ethic and quality. So I am very happy."

Lampard also applauded the performance of his striker Oliver Giroud saying," He is sets amazing examples for others like Tammy and he has the most positive attitude."

The Chelsea boss is now in position to make his first season in charge a highly satisfactory one as they contemplate a place in the FA Cup final and lie third in the Premier League, in position to reach next season's Champions League.

However, Chelsea will now turn their attention towards their match at Anfield where they face the champion Liverpool and Wolverhampton respectively before their final match of the season at Wembley against Arsenal.
