Edouard Mendy has undoubtedly turned to an important personality in the Chelsea first team squad. His arrival from Stade Rennes to Chelsea was one of best things that ever happened to Chelsea. Mendy has helped turned Chelsea defense into a no go area (stumbling block). His impressive performance in Chelsea's last EPL game against Brentford proved why he is Chelsea's No 1 and always picked over Kepa. But despite his great form for Chelsea, here is the reason why he should be rested this weekend against Norwich.
1. To Gradually Get Use To Kepa
It might be wise for Chelsea to get used to being without Mendy between the sticks. The ‘keeper is set to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal after Christmas, a competition that spans until early February.
Depending on how deep the Lions of Teranga go into the tournament, Mendy could miss up to six club matches in the league and cup.
Understandably the Blues will be bruised by their gloved protector’s omission, but it should give Kepa the chance to truly prove his price tag.
2. To Avoid Getting Mendy Injured And Reducing Unnecessary Fatigue
Mendy has featured in almost all Chelsea's important games this season. Tuchel has tougher teams to face after the month of October and it wouldn't be wise for Tuchel to keep stressing Mendy in smaller games like Norwich City in order preserve him for the bigger games ahead.
