Forget Chelsea; This Is Why Oblak Will Sign For Manchester United If He Eventually Leaves Atletico.
The Premier League has just ended, with the transfer window opened already which will allow clubs to start negotiations with their various targets and clubs.
Chelsea who was denied the opportunity of signing a player last summer has kicked off proceedings in earnest, sealing the transfers of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to send a statement of intent to their local rivals.
Now recent reports has it that the Blues have set their sights on Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak who is reportedly valued at €120m.
It comes as no surprise that Frank Lampard has identified Oblak as a potential remedy to the incessant goalkeeping problems the club has had this season, with club record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga a subject of criticisms from fans and even teammates alike.
However, asides the fact that Atletico Madrid might not be willing to let go of their prized asset just yet even if Chelsea manage to stump up the required fee, there's still a potential threat of Manchester United hijacking the deal if Oblak does decide to swap clubs.
Last summer, United was linked with Oblak and reports from ESPN had it that the Slovenian favors a move to Old Trafford, although the deal never materialized.
It was also reported that the 27-year old goalie is a 'boyhood United fan' which is the gist here.
De Gea has been less than reliable this season, with numerous blunders against the likes of Watford, Everton, Tottenham and Chelsea prompting many to question the Spaniard's qualities and the need to move him on for another alternative is relatively on the rise.
It remains to be seen if United gaffer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will stick with de Gea or look to cash in on him this summer and splash the cash on Jan Oblak.
At the moment, Chelsea seems the more serious team who are intent on recruiting Oblak who has been touted by many as the best keeper around, but if he's to leave the Wanda Metropolitano anytime soon, then expect a bidding war from the Blues and Manchester United.
And for the talks that Oblak is a boyhood fan of the Red Devils, it might prove an essential bargaining tool for the Old Trafford outfit.
