The Reigning Football Teams Of The 70s

Hamburg SV

HSV has won the German national championship six times, the DFB-Pokal three times and the League Cup twice. The team's most successful period was from the mid-1970s until the mid-1980s when, in addition to several domestic honours, they won the 1976–77 European Cup Winners' Cup and the 1982–83 European Cup.

Liverpool established itself as a major force in English and European football in the 1970s and 1980s, when Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish led the club to a combined eleven League titles and four European Cups.

Nottingham Forest

Besides the fact that Nottingham Forest have been out of the Premier League for the entire 21st century, they were a force to be reckoned with during their heyday in the 70s. During their long and interesting history, they have won one League title, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich had their period of greatest success in the mid-1970s, under the captaincy of Franz Beckenbauer. They won the European Cup three consecutive times between 1974 and 1976.

Ajax of the early 1970s dominated the European stage, under coach Michels by leading the likes of Johan Cruyff to winning three consecutive European Cup titles.
