Female boxer dies after being knocked out in a fight

After a knockout left her in critical condition, a Mexican boxer sadly died at the age of 18.

At the GVM Gala International in Montreal last week, Jeanette Zacarias Zapata was knocked out in the fourth round by Marie Pier Houle.

After a left uppercut and a right hook, the 18-year-old looked to have a seizure and was brought to the hospital.

After the fourth round, referee Albert Paduano Junior, who had checked on the Mexican combatant, declared the fight over, and the medical crew swiftly placed her in an ambulance.

On Thursday night, September 2, fight promoter Yvon Michel issued a statement announcing the terrible news.

We learned from a representative of her family that Jeanette Zacarias Zapata passed away this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. with great sadness and torment.

The promoters expressed their condolences to Zapara's family, saying, the entire team at Groupe Yvon Michel team is profoundly affected by this painful announcement.

Zapara's opponent, Houle, resorted to social media to voice her disappointment with the result.

She stated on Instagram, Boxing includes a lot of hazards and dangers. This is what we do for a living, and it's what we love to do. My ideas never, ever include the desire to significantly harm an opponent.
