UEFA Champions League

One football Milestone Messi could reach if he scores 10 more goals this year.

Lionel Messi is a professional Argentina footballer, who plays club football for Paris Saint Germain in France. The six times World footballer of the year left Barcelona this summer after almost twenty-one years at the Spanish club, where he won almost everything there is to be won in football.

During his time in Spain, Messi broke a series of records, some of which includes, most Ballon D'or awards won, most European Golden boot won, the only player in football history to have scored 91goals for both club and country in a single calendar year. On Tuesday, Messi was in action for PSG in the UEFA Champions League and made history again. His brace against the German club means Messi only needs ten more goals this year to set another record in football.

Over the years, Messi has proven that he can hardly be separated from records. He sets, equal, or broke records in almost every game he plays in. Against Leipzig on Tuesday, he scored a brace and took his goals tally for club and country in 2021 to 40goals, meaning he has now scored at least 40goals for the past 12 seasons, a feat not all the players in the game can boast of.

One football milestone, Messi could reach before the end of 2021 is that, he could become the first player in football history to score at least 50goals for both club and country in ten calendar years if he scores at least 10 more goals in his remaining games of the year. Before the end of 2021, Messi will have the opportunity of playing at least 14 more games in all competitions and should he score at least 10 goals in those games, it will mean he has scored 50goals in year 2021, something he has also done on nine occasions in the past years.

It remains to be seen if Messi can get the ten goals in the remaining games of the year, but considering the fact that he is settling well at PSG now, there's a possibility that he could end up reaching the milestone.
