Opinion: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly walking a tightrope

Manchester United isn't known to be a trigger-happy club as far as sacking coaches is concerned but even so, they have been extremely patient with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Apart from David Moyes who was sacked mid-season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the only successor of Sir Alex Ferguson who has failed to win titles. Louis Van Gaal won the FA cup but was sacked afterwards. Jose Mourinho won both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League. However, Mourinho was sacked mid-season to bring in Ole first as an interim coach and later as a permanent coach.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to be out of his depth at Manchester United. At first, it was argued that he didn't have the right players to win with but that has changed in recent times, particularly with Christiano Ronaldo joining the team. Solskjaer is very likely going to be sacked if he doesn't win titles this season.

However, no one should assume that Ole will have until the end of the season before he gets the sack. With great coaches like Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane and the likes currently available, Ole may get a surprise sack mid-season as it happened to his predecessors Mourinho and Moyes if he continues to blow hot and cold.

Interestingly, former teammates who used to throw their weight behind Solskjaer have started criticising him subtly. People like Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and many others have opined that going trophiless again this season is absolutely unacceptable for Man United.

So for the realistic analyst, it is only a matter of time till Ole is shown the way out. He certainly cannot find excuses anymore for not winning laurels this season!
