1. Mount Was Poor Defensively.
Unlike the ever busy Mason Mount that Chelsea fans have known over the last 2 seasons, the Mount that turned up today looked lethargic and lazy. The 22 year old made a couple of good runs in the first half but after that, he was bullied by the Tottenham midfield. This has been Mount's story for the past few days for Chelsea as his performances frustrate Thomas Tuchel more and more. Tuchukl had warned Mason Mount of his poor performance against Zenit in the champions league and starting here today, Mount failed to rake correction. The German boss then made the right decision and took him off early.
2. He was Indecisive With His Passing.
Mason Mount's passing was off the radar today against Tottenham at the London Stadium. The Englishman got into good positions for Chelsea in the first half but his poor passing let him down time and time again. Mount even failed to complete more than 4 passes to Lukaku's feet in the first half, as he struggled with the tempo of the game. This was a far cry from the Mason Mount we saw against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the champions league last season.
3. His Decision Making Was Poor.
To be an elite attacking midfielder, you decision making in and around the 18 yard best must be excellent and for Mason Mount, am afraid that was not the case. At one point in the first half, Mount found himself 3 v 2 against Tottenham in attack with Kai Havertz and Lukaku flanking him. Instead of picking out thr right pass to Kai Havertz, Mount made the wrong pass to Lukaku who was not in the best position to score. Lukaku just made the run to draw the defender away but Mason Mount could not read the situation very well.
These were some of the things Mount did on thr pitch that made Tuchel unhappy. The 22 year old is struggling at the moment, and sooner rather than later, Thomas Tuchel will drop him to the bench and start picking another player.
