Throwback pictures of Nigeria winning the Africa Cup of Nations

It is on record that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on three occasions.

For the benefit of doubt, Nigeria's senior National team have lifted the Cup of Nations title in 198, 1994 and 2013.

All these memories are well cherished by die hard supporters of the Super Eagles.

In 1980, Nigeria hosted the AFCON and thrashed Algeria 3-0 in the final. The likes of Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, Adokiye Amiesimaka, Muda Lawal and Muda Lawal were stars of the tournament.

Nigerian supporters had to wait for fourteen years before they could celebrate another success in Africa. This time it was the Golden Generation made up of Rashidi Yekini, Stephen Keshi, Peter Rufai, Uche Okechukwu, Austin Eguavoen, Jay Jay Okocha, Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amunike, Finidi George, Sunday Oliseh and Daniel Amokachi that made the country proud in Tunisia. The feeling of seeing Captain Stephen Keshi lift the cup was so special.

The 2013 edition saw coach Stephen Keshi leading the Super Eagles to South Africa. It became a good hunting ground for John Obi Mikel, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo, Emmanuel Emenike, Brown Ideye, Efe Ambrose, Sunday Mba and Victor Moses conquering Africa.
