5 Football Teams Bearing the Nickname "The Red Devils" - Part 1

Most football fans see the nickname "The Red Devils" as synonymous to Manchester United. Well, there are more football teams that bear that nickname and we will see them.

1. Manchester United

The term "The Red Devils" was adopted by Sir Matt Busby in 1958 after the Munich Air Disaster. He drew inspiration from the English rugby side Salford Red Devils, a team that toured France in the 1930's . The team was nicknamed " Les Diables Rouges", a French word meaning "The Red Devils". Prior to that, Manchester United were known as " The Busby Babes".

2. Belgium National Football team

This team also bears the nickname "The Red Devils". The nickname was coined by a local journalist Pierre Walckiers after Belgium beat Netherlands in a friendly in 1906. The team's nickname is known as "De Rode Duivels" in Dutch, "Les Diables Rouges" in French, or "Die Roten Teufel" in German.

3. Al Ahly Sporting Club

The Cairo based sport team which plays in the top-flight of Egyptian Football has 5 nicknames and one of them is " El Shayateen El Homr" which means " The Red Devils". This is due to the colour of their home kit.

4. FC Kaiserslautern

This football club plays in 3. Liga, the third tier of German Football and bear the nickname " Die Roten Teufel", the German word for " The Red Devils". This is also attributed to the colour of their home kit.

5. Club Atletico Independiente

The Argentinian sport club, regarded as one of it's finest, plays in the Argentinian top-flight league called Primers Division. The club bears 4 nicknames, one of which is " Los Diablos Rojos", the Spanish word for "The Red Devils".
