Barcelona looking to offload defender due to wage cut issues

Barcelona had a nice surprise immediately after the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as manager when Samuel Umtiti began to show spark in training. Since their first training session together, the French centre-back is claimed to have pleased the new boss. Also, Xavi is said to have made an effort of praising the defender's performances in front of the dressing room.

Barcelona's defense has been in disarray for a long period of time. While the club has been actively pursuing reinforcements in the transfer market, an in-form Umtiti could fix all of their problems. However, according to SPORT, the tide has shifted. The defender appeared to be on track to get increased playing time this season, but his future at Barcelona is now again in doubt.

The club are reportedly looking for a way to offload Umtiti. The most recent development is the outcome of difficulties faced during talks with the player's environment.

Barcelona and Umtiti were in the process of discussing a wage cut, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement, The club want the Frenchman to understand that the slash in wages is necessary for the betterment of both parties. Umtiti is one of Barcelona's highest earners, second only to Phillipe Coutinho.

His earnings put a substantial economic burden on the club, despite the fact that he no longer plays for the team. Given Barcelona's financial troubles, wage reductions are needed. All captains have agreed to salary reductions. If Umtiti is really reluctant to agree to the same, the best solution for the Catalans would be to sell him.
