REPORTS: Manchester United set to move for 22-year-old central defender after Varane injury

Without any doubts, Manchester United football club were one of the few busy Premier League sides during the just concluded summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are keen on winning their first trophy under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and have completed the signings of several stars including Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane to bolster their squad.

However, that has not quite worked out as expected so far as Manchester United are currently in 4th position on the Premier League table after racking up 14 points from their first seven league matches.

But then, an injury sustained by new signing Raphael Varane in the final of the UEFA Nations League against Spain some days ago could now force Manchester United into the transfer market.

And if reports are ready to go by, then the Old Trafford side are interested in signing Sevilla central defender Jules Kounde when the transfer window opens.

The 22-year-old France International, who joined Sevilla after leaving Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad over the previous seasons.

The young central defender was a mainstay in the Sevilla defence in the 2020/2021 season where he made 49 appearances in all competitions scoring four goals and registering one assist.

Jules Kounde has also started the 2021/2022 season on a bright note as has made eight appearances in all competitions, helping Sevilla to fourth position on the Spanish LaLiga table.

His impressive displays in the centre of defence is said to have attracted interests from several football clubs across Europe and according to reports from The Sun, Manchester United are also in the mix.

The Red Devils want to further strengthen their defence following an injury to Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane and are eyeing a move to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

It was revealed that Raphael Varane is going to be out for weeks following his recent injury and Manchester United are now willing to add more defensive to the squad.

That said, it remains to be seen if Sevilla will now be ready to part ways with Jules Kounde after wrestling off a transfer move from Chelsea last summer.
