The Nigeria players' body has become more formidable following fusion of rival factions National Association of Professional Footballers (NANF) and National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF), headed by Harrison Jalla and Austin Popo respectively.
According to a release by NANF signed by its outgoing President, Harrison Jalla, both bodies that have been at daggers-drawn for the past 15 years met on July 17 and decided to form a united front for the betterment of Nigerian players.
To this end, a joint committee has been instituted to marshal out a road map, which will dovetail in the heads of bodies bowing out and replaced by younger and more vibrant persons.
The joint meeting held at the instance Chairman, Surulere Local Government Area, Tajudeen Ajide and chaired by ex Nigeria international, Felix Owolabi.
Jalla expressed to both men and other ex internationals who made the peace meeting possible, stating that a new set of leaders will soon take up the mantle of leadership of a united players body.
The release read: "Nigerians will soon see a new set of vibrant kids on the block who will drive the vision in which we are founding fathers.
"I want to on behalf of all Nigeria footballers current and retired sincerely thank Hon. Tajudeen Ajide the Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, who is the convener of the peace meeting and our senior colleague Dr. Felix Owolabi (MON), who chaired and presided over the peace meeting.
"Kudos also to the legion of ex- footballers present at the meeting Waidi Akanni, Tajudeen Disu, Mutiu Adepoju, Tijani Babangida, Ikechukwu Enwezor, Austin Popo, Jumbo Awala, Wasiu Ipaye, Clement Temile, Joshua Kator, Edema Fuludu, Gani Akanni, Dahiru Sadi, David Aigbovo, Princewill Gbogbodu, Akeem Busari, Emmanuel Babayaro, Peter Nieketen and a host of others.
"Finally let me use this opportunity to inform my colleagues, friends, football stakeholders and admirers that bowing out as president of NANF will not negatively affect the fight against corruption and reforms in the NFF, in which I have been the prime mover and face of the struggle it will rather reinvigorate it."
