A superb performance at Stamford Bridge last night saw Chelsea football club secure passage to the quarterfinals of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League. The 2021 champions came back from a 1-0 first leg defeat to knock Borussia Dortmund out of the competition.
With immense pressure on manager Graham Potter and his team, this achievement couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Now the mood around the club will be more bright and the team can finally start to play with confidence in their ability.
Last night's 2-0 win saw Chelsea set some really impressive Uefa Champions League records. The club, manager and some of the players reached a landmark with the win and can be very proud of that.
Record One: Chelsea have now progressed from five UEFA Champions League knockout stage ties after losing the first leg, the joint-most of any team in the competition's history (Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid also five). Comeback.
Record Two: Graham Potter has become just the second English manager to win five UEFA Champions League games in a single season, after Bobby Robson with Newcastle in 2002-03 (5). Revival. #UCL
Record Three: Since his debut in the competition in September 2014, Raheem Sterling (44) has been involved in more Champions League goals than any other Englishman (27 goals, 17 assists), while only Wayne Rooney (30) has ever netted more in the competition amongst his compatriots.
These records are very impressive records and as the remaining round of 16 matches continue between today and next week, Chelsea will be watching and waiting for who their next opponent would be.
