Africa are still lacking behind when it comes to the use of technology in Football. The Video Assistant Referee and the goal line technology have not been introduced to African Football and this is one of the reasons why Africans football is rated below Standard.
The Video Assistant Referee is a third party system that helps the center Referee to make decisions in difficult areas. It also helps in taken some decisions like Penalty, Serious Foul play and Offside.
Central African American Vs Nigeria
After Nigeria lost the first leg match to Central African Republic, the Super Eagles of Nigeria started the second leg match with full confidence away from home.
It was an entertaining match between the two teams but Nigeria defeated Central African Republic by 2-0 to maintain the number position on the league table.
The Referee's decisions to allow Nigerian first goal to stand could have been reviewed by the VAR because Leon Balogun was clearly offside before giving Nigeria the lead.
One of the functions of the VAR is to detect offside goals by a proper review and Leon Balogun's goal would have been cancelled if the VAR was in use.
Ghana Vs Zimbabwe
Another controversial decision by the Referee could have been corrected by the VAR if the technology was in use. Ghana's goal was cancelled for offside and the replay and photos of the incident shows that the player was onside before the pass was giving to him.
The Video Assistant Referee would have corrected such mistake by the Center Referee because that is their area of specialization.
With these two incident, CAF should introduce the use of the VAR system to Africa in other to develop African Football.
Do you think VAR will be properly used in Africa?
