There is a basis for winning the Ballon d'Or award. It's a magnificent award that compels players to work the extra mile to win it at least once in their careers. For the upcoming generations to come, they would want to know the players who have won the Ballon d'Or award in our generation. Their findings would be on what basis were these players given this prestigious award.
Well, Roberto Lewandowski has proven to be a deserved candidate to win the best player in the world. But there are so many factors that are holding him down from winning the award. He might not win an international trophy for his country because Poland is not strong enough to compete with other countries in Europe. A huge setback for Lewy, but the greatest obstacle for him winning the Ballon d'Or is the Bundesliga league.
The Ballon d'Or award is an individual award that is being merited when you're at the top of your game. However, the assessment of your goals will be on the ranking of clubs you have scored against. The Bundesliga league is not among the top five leagues in the world because they lack that competition. The league title success has been on Bayern Munich's shoulders for the past nine years. Apparently, it's a Farmer league that would take long to gain high recognition by top elitist footballers.
Roberto Lewandowski has spent his entire life in this league, he's a top striker that needs to step out of his comfort zone if he truly desires to win the Ballon d'Or before his retirement. Franck Ribery may have won two Ballon d'Or awards by now if he had played in Spain or England.
Individual success is not enough to win the Ballon d'Or award. Football experts are going to be looking at the clubs you played against, the players in your club, the structure of the league you are playing in. The Bundesliga is highly uncompetitive in nature, imagine RB Leipzig selling Upamecano and Sabitzer to Bayern Munich. These are the best players in their team, it makes no sense to me especially when we know Bayern is star-studded at the moment. If Messi and Ronaldo are playing for Bayern Munich, they would be scoring more than Lewy in that league.
