Chelsea will be facing Real Madrid for the third consecutive season in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League after the West London club and the reigning European Champions were paired up in the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
In the 2020/21 Season, Chelsea faced Real Madrid in the Semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. The West London club was able to eliminate the Spanish Giant to reach the Finals before beating Manchester City to win the title.
Last season, Chelsea faced Real Madrid in the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. The West London club lost the first leg at Stamford Bridge by 3-1 before they travelled to Spain for the second leg.
Chelsea was in Spain with a Faint chance of eliminating Real Madrid by beating them at Santiago Bernabeu. It sounds impossible but Chelsea was on the verge of achieving it.
Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner scored a goal each in the first 75 minutes of the game. Chelsea was just 15 minutes away from eliminating Real Madrid before Rodrygo and Karim Benzema scored a goal each to eliminate Chelsea with an aggregate of 5-4.
The apparent mistake that Thomas Tuchel made in the game was that he continued to attack Real Madrid when he has already gotten more than he bargained for in the game. He was supposed to sit back and defend but, he kept on attacking till Real Madrid fired back.
Real Madrid scored against Liverpool both in the first and second leg of round of 16 to eliminate the Jurgen Klopp's side. This explains Real Madrid's ruthlessness in front of goal as it will take a lot to prevent Real Madrid from scoring but, Chelsea has a great defense that can subdue Real Madrid.
