The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez has just made a public announcement barely 24 hours after the death of the Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona.

The country's President declared a three days of official mourning of the passing of the World Cup winner, Diego Maradona who died of a heart attack few hours ago.

Alberto Fernandez, speaking to Argentinean newspaper Clarin, said in a brief statement that he was "incredibly sad" over the Death of Diego Maradona.


He said, "I was working with Cafiero (the head of the cabinet) when they told me about the sad news. I couldn't believe, I was distraught. It is the worst news an Argentine fan could receive. We loved him. I'm trying to talk to his family, We'll see. There is so much sadness in the country".

Meanwhile, according to Aljazeera news, Diego Maradona's coffin has just arrived at the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, Argentina.


Thousands of mourners, many in tears, gathered in the streets, around stadiums and at the palace of the Argentinian capital to pay their last respect, as well as gratitude to arguably football's most iconic figure.
