It was a hot afternoon in October 2000 in a lower professional league, the game was about to start and the player were all set. The match was between Cross Farm Park Celtic and Taunton East Reach Wanderers.
Lee Todd plays for Farm Park Celtic, he was quite close to where the referee was standing.
When the referee blew the whistle for the game to start, Lee Todd was jolted by the sound of the whistle. He muttered " F**k me, that was loud" the referee overheard him and handed him a straight red card just 2 seconds into the game.
Todd's team played the 90 plus added minutes with 10 players.
Although, his team went on to win the game 11-2. After the match, he said that he was not swearing at anyone and anybody could have said the same in his position.
Personally for me, I don't think it is proper to hand him a straight red but the referee could have cautioned him against the use of such foul language.
