Arteta ‘weighing up’ Gabriel Jesus decision ahead of potential Arsenal comeback against Sporting

Mikel Arteta is considering including Gabriel Jesus as part of Arsenal’s travelling party to Portugal ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League tie against Sporting Lisbon. Resuming their quest for an elusive continental crown, Arsenal travel to the Estadio Jose Alvalade XXI for the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash with Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night. The Gunners progressed as winners from Group A to set up a tie with Ruben Amorim's former Champions League contenders, who dished out a 5-1 beating to FC Midtjylland in the playoffs.

Gabriel Jesus has not featured for Arsenal since the World Cup after requiring knee surgery in December. However, the 25-year-old is now closing on a return as he joined his Arsenal teammates for Wednesday’s training session before they travel to Lisbon. Mikel Arteta is likely to confirm on Wednesday evening whether Jesus will be able to play any part of their Europa League fixture on Thursday.

Arteta is likely to be without Leandro Trossard, who suffered a groin injury against the Cherries, and Eddie Nketiah for the trip to Lisbon and could, according to The Times, include Jesus as part of his squad. Arsenal will train on Wednesday morning before taking the flight to Portugal an Arteta will consider his options carefully before making a decision on whether to risk involving his No.9.
