Some premier league clubs will miss a few of the key players from or before 9 January when the African cup of nations would start officially. However, it seems Liverpool and Aston Villa who have major key players will suffer most. Let us look at premier players going to the African cup of Nations.
Aston Villa: Mahmoud Trezeguet (Egypt), Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso), Marvelous Nakamba (Zimbabwe)
Arsenal: Thomas Partey (Ghana), Mohamed Elneny (Egypt), Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Nicolas Pepe (Ivory Coast)
Brentford: Julian Jeanvier (Guinea), Frank Onyeka (Nigeria), Tariqe Fosu-Henry (Ghana)
Brighton: Yves Bissouma (Mali)
Burnley: Maxwel Cornet (Ivory Coast)
Chelsea: Edouard Mendy (Senegal), Hakim Ziyech (Morocco)
Crystal Palace: Cheikhou Kouyate (Senegal), Jeffrey Schlupp (Ghana), Jordan Ayew (Ghana), Wilfried Zaha (Ivory Coast)
Everton: Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Ivory Coast), Alex Iwobi (Nigeria)
Leeds United: None
Leicester City: Daniel Amartey (Ghana), Nampalys Mendy (Senegal), Wilfred Ndidi (Nigeria), Kelechi Iheanacho (Nigeria)
Manchester City: Riyad Mahrez (Algeria)
Manchester United: Eric Bailly (Ivory Coast), Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast)
Newcastle United: None
Norwich City: None
Southampton: Moussa Djenepo (Mali), Mohammed Salisu (Ghana)
Tottenham Hotspur: None.
Watford: Peter Etebo (Nigeria), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), Adam Masina (Morocco), Ismaila Sarr (Senegal), Emmanuel Dennis (Nigeria).
West Ham: None
Wolves: Romain Saiss (Morocco).
It is interesting to state here that Chelsea losing Mendy is likely to be a blow because of his recent form. However, their assistant goalkeeper has been in a good shape since Frank Lampard was sacked.
Crystal Palace and Arsenal will miss key players too. However, their clubs will find a way to squeeze out a win in their absence.
NB: The only thing that will stop any of the above-mentioned players from not participating in the continental tournament is injury.
It is quite interesting that teams that didn't reach to semi-finals or finals would have their players return to the premier league action as soon as possible.
