After barely sustaining their elite division status last season, the club seem to have hit a brilliant patch this term, securing maximum point in their last two games, shaking off opening day's 3-0 trouncing at Estádio Cidade de Barcelos by Gil Vicente FC.
Awaziem didn't make the trip, a possible reason for the annihilation. The Nigerian featured prominently in the last two fixtures, playing from start to finish as the team effortlessly dispatched Paços Ferreira and Santa Clara 3-0 and 2-0 at home respectively.
With him holding sway in the heart of the defence, the backline that caved in three times on match day one came up with clean sheets on those occasions. He will be looked up to put up another stellar performance during Saturday's match day 4 trip to Vizela.
Awaziem played last season at the club on loan from Porto, scoring once in 27 starts in as many matches, to help the club finish 13th in the standings with 36 points.
Pleased with his servitude, the club signed Awaziem on a permanent four-year contract on 30 June 2021, with Porto, who previously loaned him to Nantes, Leganes and Rizespor, pocketting €5 million.
