Argentina's national team faced Bolivia in their 8th game of the South American 2022 World Cup qualification series, as they aimed to solidify their place in the second spot, with Brazil on top of the table, having won all their games.

Lionel Messi was seen crying after the game, as the Argentine national team presented the Copa America they won in Brazil for the first time to their home crowd. The tears shaded by Messi did not depict sadness, rather they were tears of joy, as he explained when he was interviewed. He said that it was not easy to win the Copa America with the national team, and knowing his siblings and parents were in the crowd as they presented the trophy was a totally different feeling, as this was the reason which led to him crying.
