The midfield battle at Chelsea this season is one that looks to be keenly contested by a handful of stars at the club.
Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel, currently has 6-7 outright midfielders to select from week in week out, and his 3-4-3 formation only permits two, to start at a go.
Heading into the new campaign, the likes of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ngolo Kante looked like strong favorites to nail down starting shirts in Chelsea's midfield, with likes of Saul, Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley providing back ups.
However recent results has now thrown the door even more open, as the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek & Barkley have now jumped into the equation, as both players played a key role in Chelsea's win against Southampton over the weekend.
With that being said, one player now looks to be at the bottom of the pecking order of Chelsea's midfield and it's no other than Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez.
The player who was initially brought in on deadline day on loan from Atletico Madrid to provide support for Chelsea's mainstay midfielders, seems to be struggling to get game time at the moment.
Things looks to be getting even worse for Saul following the recent resurgence from Loftus-Cheek and Barkley for the blues.
I will thus be looking at two things Saul will need to do if he is to force his way back into Thomas Tuchel's plans this season.
Work hard in training
If there is anything Saul needs to do is definitely working even harder during Chelsea's training sessions.
Club manager Tuchel has consistently rewarded Chelsea players who put in their all in training with adequate game time, and with the likes of Ben Chilwell and Loftus-Cheek starting against Southampton, only but attest to that fact.
Saul needs to be focus, and put his very best in training if Tuchel is to consider him once again in the Chelsea starting eleven.
Take his chances
Lastly the Spaniard must definitely take his chances when the opportunity do present itself for him to play for the blues.
You will agree with me that Saul was far from impressive in the two games he has played for the blues so far against Aston Villa, unlike Lofus-Cheek and Barkley who have caught the eyes of Tuchel with their respective performances.
In conclusion i feel Saul will definitely still get some opportunities to prove himself at Chelsea as he is a world class player, but he will need to prove his worth both in training and on the pitch for the blues.
Do you think Chelsea made a mistake signing Saul Niguez?
