Chelsea football club would host Aston Villa on Saturday at Stamford Bridge after a return from international break. The London side would be aiming to continue their unbeaten run in the 2021/2022 Premier League season as they battle it out with resilient Aston Villa. Chelsea are currently occupying the fourth position at the Premier League summit after securing 7 points from their 3 opening matches, while Aston Villa have only managed 4 points from their first 3 matches and they are currently at 11th position. Meanwhile, the last time the two sides met, Aston Villa was victorious with a 2-1 win over Chelsea. However, after their meeting on Saturday, Aston Villa would make a fast return to Stamford Bridge because of the Carabao Cup match on Wednesday 13.
Thomas Tuchel's side would certainly come up with a strong squad despite the growing cases of injury at the Stamford Bridge. Club-record signing, Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for the match after picking up a minor thigh problem during international duties for Belgium. Though the former Inter Milan striker undertook a full training recently with the squad, his appearance is still doubtful.
Chelsea full-back, Reece James would be unavailable after he was shown a red card during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool. Christian Pulisic would also be unavailable after picking up an ankle injury while playing for the United States of America.
More so, Ngolo Kante is another doubt for the match. The French midfielder was absent during Chelsea's recent training, probably because of his ankle problem. Interestingly, Chelsea young star, Trevoh Chalobah could return to the starting XI after Thiago Silva was reportedly suspended by FIFA after Brazil FA demanded that FIFA should impose the five-day rule because Chelsea did not release the player for international duties.
On the other hand, Aston Villa would be visiting Stamford Bridge without two of their first team players - Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia. Bertrand Traore and Morgan Sanson might not be available for the match also. But, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins are expected to return to Villa's starting XI following their appearances during the international break.
Interestingly, Chelsea are currently unbeaten in their last 6 home games against Aston Villa. Chelsea has not conceded a goal from open play since the beginning of the season. Notably, Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku has scored 6 times and provided 1 assist in his 6 starts against Aston Villa.
Considering Chelsea's defensive expertise, it would be a herculean task for the away team to score past the Champions League winners. More so, Thomas Tuchel's attacking tactics have been so impressive. With this, we will be predicting a win for Chelsea.
Chelsea 2-0 Aston Villa.
