Arsenal defeated Aston Aston Villa in the Matchday 9 of the Premier League with goals from Thomas Partey, Aubmeyang, and Emile Smith Rowe. Ramsey was able to pull one back for the visitors through a cracker. Arsenal climbed to the 9th position on the log table behind Manchester United occupying the 6th position with a goal difference separating both sides.Arsenal started the season on a pretty bad state by recording three straight losses against newly promoted side Brentford, Chelsea, and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. The shocking fact is that they failed to score a goal in each of those matches with Manchester City defeat (5-0) being the heaviest of them all.
However, they responded quickly to the criticism thrown at the manager and players by recording three consecutive wins against Norwich City, Burnley, and fierce rival Tottenham Hotspur. The victory against Spurs was the most convincing as the Gunners scored three first-half goals in less than thirty minutes of play.
They continued their impressive form by coming out of Amex Stadium with a point having had to play almost the entire game in their half. Crystal Palace could have condemned them to their fourth defeat in front of their home fans if not for a last-minute strike from Alexander Lacazette to salvage a point for the team.
This draw against Crystal Palace would have been the key needed to kick-start Arsenal's quest to overtake Manchester United. Arsenal came into that game against Crystal Palace with four points behind Manchester United and needed two straight wins against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa to leapfrog the Manchester side.
Manchester United on the other hand could have climbed farther but dropped five points in their last two matches. Everton held them to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford while Brendan Rodgers Leicester City hammered them 4-2 at the King Power Stadium in a game where the home team came from behind to defeat the Europa League finalist.
Defeating Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in their previous match would have placed them (Arsenal) one point behind Manchester United and thus the victory against Aston Villa tonight could have taken them as far as the fourth position on the log table above the Red Devils. They will be praying for such an opportunity as that presents itself again to correct their wrong.
Therefore, Arsenal threw away their golden opportunity of leapfrogging Manchester United after today's win due to their stalemate draw against Patrick Viera's Crystal Palace in their previous Premier League match. With the way the young guns are playing, it is looking likely that they will soon overtake every other gig
