United States invites Nigerian wonderkid dubbed new van Dijk to their national team

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Owen Otasowie has been named in US National team for upcoming engagement in March.

The defender whose full name is Ebeguowen Owen Otasowie was born on January 6, 2001 in New York City, United States to Nigerian parent who hail from Delta state. 

Owen Otasowie grew up in England and began his career with West Ham United's academy in 2017 , before jumping the ship to Wolves months later . 

The 20-year-old was eligible to play for United States, England and Nigeria, but the Americans moved quickly to involve him in thier senior set up. 

He represented the United States at the under-18 level, but his first invitation to the senior squad was in 2020 for matches against Wales and Panama in November 2020.

He made his senior debut on the November 12, 2020, coming on in the 87th minute of a 0–0 draw against Wales.

Dubbed as the new Van Dijk, Otasowie is still eligible to represent England or Nigeria as he's yet to make a competitive appearance.

Should e play for United, he will be second Nigerian to play for the Americans after Ugochi Onyewu.
