The Record That Mendy Broke Yesterday Could Give Him The Ballon D'or Yachinee Award over Donnarumma

Chelsea fans held their hearts in their palms yesterday as the blues were battered from all corners and angles by Brentford who were in top 'sage' mode to acquire a point from the game in the dying minutes.

Tuchel's men had opened the scoring a few minutes to halftime through a Chilwell volley, but they struggled to create any chances of the sort to double their lead and kill the game.

The last 30 minutes of the second half was extremely tense for the players and travelling fans at the Brentford Community Stadium yesterday as the hosts came very close to equalising, hitting the woodwork twice amid a very tight Chelsea defence and a brilliant Keeper.

The Match however was highlighted with Mendy's heroics in the dying minutes of the game as Chelsea fought to keep their three points intact. The Senegalese International who was recently nominated for the Ballon D'or Yachinee which is an award given to the best goalkeeper of the year, could very well now be the front runner to clinch this title after reaching a milestone record yesterday.

Brentford had 17 shots on goal and seven of them were on target. Edouard Mendy made six brilliant saves yesterday to keep the scoreline at 1-0. It was his second joint highest saves in a match since he signed for Chelsea.

The clean sheet yesterday was his 20th. With that Mendy broke the record of being the only 5th player ever in Premier League history to reach 20 clean sheets in as few as 38 games. The only players above him in this record are Petr Cech (26), Pepe Reina (32), Alisson (36) and Roy Carroll (37).

When the Ballon D'or 30-man list came out, pundits scrutinised Mendy's absence from the list whilst Donnarumma cut. According to Koulibaly, the 29-year-old deserved to be on the Ballon D'or list and with his record yesterday and brilliance, one could hardly argue with that.

Nevertheless, he is a nominee for the Ballon D'or Yachinee and his greatest rival to that award is his ballon D'Or nominated counterpart Donnarumma. With this record yesterday, he could very well beat Donnarumma to the award as the football World is buzzing from his excellent performance for Chelsea since the season began, coupled with his exploits in Chelsea's Champions League success Story.
