Mbappe's goal-drought continues as he goes three games without scoring

Lionel Messi may have been sidelined with a knee injury on Saturday night, but Paris Saint-Germain were still able to win 2-0 in their Ligue 1 meeting with Montpellier at Parc des Princes on Saturday . After being taken out midweek, Messi was not due to play any role on Saturday night, and it was up to Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to lead the line for Mauricio Pochettinos' charges.

However, the opening goal came from a rather unexpected source as Idrissa Gueye found the net after 14 minutes of play with a powerfully hitting effort into the roof of the net. Ander Herrera had a chance to double the lead just before the break with a long-range shot, although he touched the crossbar and rebounded for a goal kick.

Montpellier were unable to mount much of their own offensive moves, and they were put out of their misery in the 88th minute when Julian Draxler scored within one minute of his introduction. The result keeps PSG at the top of Ligue 1, still not tasting defeat this season, and they have a practical 10-point lead over Marseille in second place. Mbappé is currently going through a mini-drought, as he has gone three games without scoring.
