"He Will Be My Pick" - Kevin De Bruyne Named His Candidate For Ballon D'Or Award

The Ballon d'Or is a renowned individual award for football players that is presented annually by the French news magazine France Football. It is one of the world's most prestigious individual awards for football players. Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne has endorsed Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski to win the 2021 Ballon d'Or ahead of its ceremonial day on November 29, 2021.

Kevin De Bruyne was asked who he would pick for the Ballon d'Or in an interview with the press ahead of Manchester City's Champions League match against Club Brugge. De Bruyne chose Robert Lewandowski, claiming that this year's prize should take into account the previous two seasons because there was be no Ballon d'Or ceremony in 2020.

Kevin De Bruyne commented:

"If I had to choose, I'm looking at the two-year period because we didn't have one last year, so I'd go with Lewandowski for his goal-scoring performance over the last two years. He'd be my first choice ."

During the 2019-20 season, Robert Lewandowski was extremely productive. Under Hansi Flick, the 33-year-old Polish centre forward scored 55 goals in only 47 games in all competitions as Bayern Munich won the treble.

Last year, Lewandowski was the clear favorite to win the Ballon d'Or, but the ceremony was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Robert Lewandowski's form hasn't deteriorated despite missing out on the prize in 2020. Last season, the Bayern Munich striker scored 48 goals, and he has already scored 15 goals in just 11 games this season.
